Patriots’ Brandon Bolden Reveals Special Reason For Number Change

Brandon Bolden is making headlines again and everyone is talking about the number change. The NFL veteran entered the league in 2012 and he has worn just one uniform number: No. 38.

The running back/special teamer is ready for a change and that jersey number was the first on his list.

The Patriots announced Bolden has switched to No.25. Safety Terrence Brooks has this number last season.

So, what made him change his jersey number? Bolden took to his Instagram to offer an explanation. The talented running back adopted No.25 to honor his grandfather, Frank Pitts.

Pitts is a former AFL/NFL wide receiver. He donned the same number for the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns in the 1960s and 1970s.

“So yesterday I was ask ‘Why I changed my number,’ ” Bolden wrote. “Well long story short my Grandfather wore it for 11 years and I thought it would be best that he at least saw his oldest grandson play in the same number he played in, even though it’s the NFL now and not the AFL he remembers. (laughing face emoji)”

What a great way to tribute his grandfather, right?

77-year-old Pitts was able to catch 175 passes in his professional career. He was brilliant with the Chiefs in 1968, stacking 30 catches, 655 yards, and six touchdowns. Pitts had another big season with the Browns in 1972 with 36 catches, 620 yards, and 8 touchdowns.

Bolden has spent seven seasons with the New England Patriots and one with the Miami Dolphins. He won two titles with the Patriots and opted out of the 2020 season due to coronavirus concerns. The running back has yet to practice in front of cameras this spring.

Cornerback Dee Virgin wears Bolden’s No.38 jersey with the Patriots. He was spotted wearing this number during organized team activities.

We believe Patriots players will make some more changes to their jersey numbers. It’s all good as long as they follow the rules. The NFL made some changes to the rules and players follow every bit of that.

The Patriots are getting ready for a strong season with Cam Newton leading their way.
