NBA Insider Has Telling Comment On Lakers Trade For Russell Westbrook

The Los Angeles Lakers made a trade move to get Russell Westbrook in the offseason. It was a blockbuster trade and Kyle Kuzma is no longer a Laker. The same goes for Montrezl Harrell and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. These three won’t join the Lakers in the 2021-22 NBA season. Kuzma was part of so many trade rumors and some of the turned out to be true.

The Washington Wizards traded Westbrook to the Lakers on Thursday night. It was a big trade for both teams. Yes, LeBron James and Anthony Davis will work with another superstar.

Of course, Westbrook wasn’t the only target for the purple and gold. The team was linked with several players, including Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal. Chris Paul was also an option despite the fact that he eliminated the Lakers in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

LA Lakers were right to trade for Russell Westbrook

Eric Pincus from Bleacher Report has more details on this one.

“Per NBA sources, the Lakers went into the offseason with a clear Plan A: unrealistic hopes of landing a Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal. Plan B was Chris Paul (but then the Phoenix Suns advanced to the NBA Finals) and Westbrook. Hield was always Plan C. Over the past few weeks, the Lakers pursued Westbrook and Hield in parallel conversations with the Wizards and Sacramento Kings. As the draft neared, the Wizards seemed content to wait on big decisions with Beal and Westbrook.”

Westbrook is a good player and he can definitely help the Lakers win more games. However, this doesn’t change the fact that Dame and Beal are better options for the Lakers.

LeBron, Davis, and Westbrook won’t have trouble competing for a ring. They have already met at LeBron’s house and discussed the details over dinner. The trio is determined to win a championship and they won’t go home without one. LeBron will lead the offense and Davis will go at center. Westbrook is fine with this scenario. I mean, he came to LA to win a ring, right?
