Marc Gasol Future With LeBron James, Lakers Cast in Doubt Following Trade Rumors

The Los Angeles Lakers keep adding power to their roster but they really need to take care of one of their veterans. Marc Gasol has some questions about his future with the Lakers. He is still on the Lakers roster, but things may change overnight. According to recent reports, the Lakers will try to trade the big man. Where is he going this time?

ESPN insider Ramona Shelburne reported that the Lakers may send Gasol to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the sign-and-trade related to Alex Caruso.

“Caruso had a couple of deals, and I’m sure you’ve heard some of these too, Zach,” Shelburne said on Wednesday on Zach Lowe’s The Low Post podcast (h/t Jacob Rude of Silver Screen & Roll). “… He had a couple of deals, somewhere around the mid-level. One was a team that didn’t have to do a sign-and-trade, and that was the Bulls, and that was the one he preferred anyway.

“But I heard the Timberwolves were in on this. It would have been a sign-and-trade, and they actually would have taken back Marc Gasol. Like that could have been salary cap relief for the Lakers, not just a trade exception. So we’ll see if they end up needing those exceptions, we’ll see if they end up needing those extra tools to build this roster out, but I think that’s really where we’re going to decide ‘was the Westbrook trade a success?’”

Marc Gasol doesn’t see a future with the Lakers

We are not even surprised. The Lakers are checking out their possibilities right now. Caruso decided to ink a deal with the Chicago Bulls as they had a better deal for him. The Lakers may ship Gasol somewhere else at this point. They signed a bunch of players and there may be no room for the veteran big man.

Gasol is a Laker at the moment. He didn’t play his best basketball last season. The Lakers may be looking into the idea of breaking ties with the three-time All-Star prior to the start of the 2021-22 NBA season. He likes the team but the Lakers need someone who has a bigger impact on the floor.
