Patriots Tight End Reportedly Limped Off Field Sunday

The New England Patriots added nice depth to the tight end unit. Head coach Bill Belichick brought Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith in free agency. These two are excellent players and NFL experts said they’d fit in Belichick’s system without any effort.

I guess no one thought one of these tight ends would sustain an injury. According to the several sources, the Patriots are dealing with another injury to the tight end squad.

ESPN NFL insider Mike Reiss reported that the Patriots had a tight end leave the practice field limping.

Smith limped off the practice field on Sunday morning. He is one of the biggest additions to the Patriots roster. Is it serious?

Update on the Patriots tight end

Reiss has more on Smith’s injury. He explained that the veteran tight end had a bad landing and the medical staff had to take care of him. The veteran walked barefoot but we do hope his injury is not that serious.

“Jonnu Smith got tangled up with a defensive back in a low-speed 1-on-1 drill, landed a bit awkwardly, and limped off early in this morning’s practice,” Reiss wrote on Twitter. “The athletic training and medical staff seemed to be looking at his left ankle/foot. He walked off barefoot. Didn’t return.”

The 25-year-old spent four seasons of his professional career with the Tennessee Titans. He joined the Patriots in free agency in the offseason.

Smith inked a four-year deal worth $50 million. The former FIU tight end was one of the two big free agent tight end additions in Foxboro. New England got Henry with an intention to add depth to the tight end unit.

The Patriots had their first preseason game and won it. They won the game against the game against the Washington Football Team. The regular season starts on Sunday, Sept. 12. Bill Belichick and his team will meet the Miami Dolphins in Week 1. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming to Foxboro in Week 4.
