Report: Patriots Make Decision On Rookie Kicker Quinn Nordin

The New England Patriots had high expectations for their kicker Quinn Nordin. However, he is dealing with an abdominal issue and may miss a lot of time. Enter veteran Nick Folk.

Folk was of great help for the Patriots in 2020. Head coach Bill Belichick elevated him from the practice squad right on time for the season opener against the Miami Dolphins. Folk was brilliant in Week 1, but the Patriots sent him back to the practice unit.

Nordin is a good player but he will soon end up on injured reserve. What does this mean? Folk may soon take his position on the active roster.

The Patriots need Quinn Nordin on the field

Nordin is a key player for the Patriots and so is Folk. The veteran was one of the best offensive players for the Patriots last season. He was consistent and the Patriots won a lot of games thanks to his great help. It’s interesting to note that Folk lost the job to an undrafted rookie. This shift triggered an avalanche of changes for the Patriots.

When it comes to Nordin, he had quite a surprising performance in college at Michigan. The kicker connected on 72 percent of his field goal attempts and went 2-for-5 in 2020. Things didn’t look too bright for the undrafted kicker and he even considered joining the military. Nordin was really looking for a job, but the Patriots decided to give him a chance.

Nordin was great in training camp. He did a good job in his three field goal attempts, and that 50-yarder was crazy.

Something changed in the second week of the preseason. Nordin missed two PATs and a short kick. Of course, the kicker closed the preseason with good performance. He booted three of his four kicks in Game 3 of the preseason, but he did miss a 53-yard attempt.

Nordin looks great on the field and Bill Belichick would love to see more from him. He will be able to see this in November. Nordin won’t play in the next few weeks and he will need more time to recover.
