LeBron James Has Clear Preference For Future

LeBron James has been around for almost two decades and everyone has questions about his future. Why does it matter? LeBron’s comments during the All-Star Weekend sparked a big controversy. First, he praised other executives and discussed their efforts to adjust their rosters. Many viewed this as a shot at Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka. Second, LeBron said he wants to play with his son Bronny at the end of his career.  Third, LeBron didn’t close the door for his return to Cleveland.

LeBron James plans his future carefully

The four-time NBA champion sure has plans for his future. He is the highest-paid basketball player at the moment and yes, he will do the best for his family.

Enter trade rumors. A lot of analysts believe that the Los Angeles Lakers should trade LeBron this offseason. The Lakers struggled to win games and they didn’t want to make a move at the trade deadline. Eric Pincus reported that LeBron supported Russell Westbrook’s trade to the Houston Rockets, but Rob Pelinka decided to move on with the same roster.

Bill Oram of The Athletic discussed the alleged tension between LeBron and his team. Shams Charania of The Athletic has something else to say. According to this report, LeBron is not going anywhere in the near future.

Oram discussed LeBron’s role within the organization, suggesting that he has more power than Kobe Bryant ever had with the team.

“But for as important as Bryant was to the Lakers, sources inside the organization have long said that not even the legendary Black Mamba wielded as much power within the organization as James now has,” Oram detailed. “Bryant was never able to strong-arm the Lakers to make a move like the one James helped orchestrate for [Russell] Westbrook, which has proven to be an outright disaster.”

The Lakers front office made a few unexpected moves over the years and some of them turned out to be a complete failure. Lakers players sustained too many injuries as well. What’s the next move for the Lakers? Will LeBron consider leaving the Lakers if they don’t improve the roster?
