NFL Insider Tabs Patriots As Potential Fit For This Star Wideout

The New England Patriots have been linked with many players and they can be the perfect landing spot for a star wideout. Julian Edelman announced his retirement last offseason and the team struggled to find someone like him. Head coach Bill Belichick got Nelson Agholor but the experiment didn’t work well for the team. Agholor was coming off of a good season but his performance in 2021 wasn’t that great.

Amari Cooper was a good option for the Patriots, but he will probably start the new season with the Cleveland Browns. This gives Jarvis Landry a chance to go somewhere else.

Patriots to get a star wideout

Jeremy Fowler discussed Landry’s chance to join the Patriots. If he get the chance to go somewhere else, Belichick won’t be wasting his time.

“Jarvis Landry will have a strong market, especially if he’s released,” the NFL insider said Sunday morning on ESPN’s “SportsCenter.” “Teams will not be eager to take that $16.3 million cap hit. They’d prefer to not have to give up a draft pick to inherit that. So if he’s released in the coming days, you’re looking at the Patriots — they’re in the high-end receiver market. Landry could fall somewhere in there. Tennessee Titans are a team that’s a piece away, could be looking for a really good slot receiver. There are probably eight to 10 teams that are willing to spend at this position. You got the Lions, the Jets, the Jaguars.

“I’m told Landry will probably look for the right fit. He wants to contend, go with a good quarterback. Still a chance he stays in Cleveland because they’re trying to work out a potential contract. Maybe they can do a mini extension or a restructure. So, I’m told a return to Cleveland with either Baker Mayfield or whoever is gonna be the quarterback there is not off the table.”

Rookie quarterback Mac Jones needs great weapons in 2022. He did a good job in 2021, but the Patriots didn’t give him the right weapons. Will Landry join the team this season?
