Lakers Have Made Final Decision on Hiring Head Coach

The Los Angeles Lakers have finally found their new head coach. Frank Vogel was fired at the end of the regular season and he got the news during a press conference. The Lakers won a title with him leading the team, but the last couple of seasons were a disaster. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka and the front office made a decision and Darvin Ham is the new head coach.

Kenny Atkinson, Terry Stotts, and Ham were top candidates for the job. Doc Rivers was also an option, but the Philadelphia 76ers didn’t say a word about his potential departure. It seems like Rivers will continue working with the Sixers. The Lakers made a decision in the meantime and Ham got the job.

Lakers made expected decision on new head coach

Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN was among the first to report that the former Milwaukee Bucks assistant will join the Lakers as their new head coach. According to his report, Ham will get a four-year deal with the team. Just for comparison, Vogel got a three-year deal with the team.

Ham knows the Lakers really well. He was their assistant from 2011 to 2013. The Lakers have a special way of doing things. Ham won a ring as a Detroit Pistons guard in 2004. The Milwaukee Bucks won a championship last season and this ring elevated his value on the coaching market.

How will Ham handle the current situation in LA? He will be coaching LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Let’s not forget that Russell Westbrook is still here, too. It’s a rather tricky situation for the new head coach, but Ham has enough experience and knowledge to do the right thing.

The best part? LeBron is a fan. The four-time NBA champion preferred Ham over other coaching options. Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report reported that Ham was LeBron’s top choice. This should make things easier for both LeBron and Ham. Some NBA coaches have a hard time coping with LeBron’s dominance. Rings a bell?

LeBron and Ham will work really well together. It’s an important season for the purple and gold. Another failed season may push LeBron out of LA.
