Lakers Waive Point Guard With One Caveat

The Los Angeles Lakers will keep making changes to their roster. NBA experts predicted most of the offseason moves General Manager Rob Pelinka made. In the most recent wave, the Lakers waived their point guard.

It’s Quinn Cook.

Cook spent just one season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He was averaging 5.1 points, 1.1 assists, and 1.2 rebounds per game. The veteran didn’t have a meaningful role in the rotation, but his teammates sure liked him a lot.

Los Angeles has already lost Danny Green, freeing a big portion of their cap space. Cook’s departure won’t affect the cap space, but it definitely opens a roster spot for the Lakers. The team has a bigger chance to add another player to their roster.

Cook will sign a contract with another team in the NBA. He has won two NBA titles and has averaged 6.8 points per game in his young career.

Cook has a $1 million partial guarantee on his $3 million cap hit for next season. He signed with the Lakers as a free agent after spending two years with the Golden State Warriors.

Lakers lose point guard

Pelinka isn’t done making roster moves, and that’s exactly what he said in his most recent call with media members. In one of the biggest offseason moves, the Lakers traded for Dennis Schroder. They sent Danny Green to the Oklahoma City Thunder and a draft pick. Schroder is a good fit for the Lakers. He will give the team consistent scoring and rim pressure. The German native is just 27, and he is coming off of a season of strong two-way play. According to NBA experts, Schroder is a more productive version of veteran Rajon Rondo. He has a higher focus on scoring than playmaking and definitely offers a better defense.

Los Angeles lost Green and it’s a big loss for the team, but they can replace him with a high-performing player whose performance hasn’t seen a decline.

Who is the next the join the Lakers? We can only make guesses regarding Pelinka’s next offseason move.
