Stephen Curry Reveals What He Told Kevin Durant Immediately After Durant’s Achilles Injury

Kevin Durant ruptured his Achilles tendon during Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals and had to retreat to the locker room. Teammate Andre Iguodala was there to help him walk, while Stephen Curry was following the group through the tunnel.

Curry then approached Durant from behind and said something to him before returning to the court.

On the season finale of Curry’s Facebook series “Stephen vs The Game,” the point guard explained the reasons behind that action and revealed why he ran into the tunnel and what he told Durant.

“I don’t know why I ran into the tunnel, I think I knew it was something serious,” Curry said. “I threw a Bible verse at him just to encourage him, to keep his spirits high.”

While Stephen Curry did not specify which Bible verse he used, he commended Durant for “sacrificing” his body for the Warriors.

“Klay [Thompson] played on half a hamstring for three games, Andre [Iguodala] was on one leg for almost the entire series, [Kevon] Looney is playing with a broken bone in his chest,” Curry said of the Warriors’ injuries during the postseason. “KD sacrificing his body as well, even DeMarcus [Cousins] coming back from his quad injury to play in the Finals. For us to get where we did — one possession to get to a Game 7 – is pretty remarkable.”

The season finale tells the story about the Warriors’ entire postseason run, covering all the major events that occurred in the early stages of free agency.

Curry did not directly address Durant’s move to the Brooklyn Nets, but he spoke about the chorus of national pundits declaring the Warriors’ dynasty over.

“Oh the ‘Warriors are done’ narrative, that’s all I hear, and I love that,” he said. “At one point they said we’d never win a championship and we heard that all the time.”
