Lakers Expected to Sign ‘Breakout’ Guard at Discount in Free Agency

The Los Angeles Lakers have to reshape their roster and strengthen the gameplan. Darvin Ham will be leading the way for the team. He may work with a completely different roster in 2022. There are so many options for the Lakers and they may soon sign a guard.

Rob Pelinka may make a move to get a bunch of key players. LA has shown interest in Bradley Beal, too. He could be a good addition for the team. However, the Lakers won’t be able to get him that easily.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis won’t go anywhere in the near future. Who will be the first player to join the Lakers?

Enter Malik Monk. He joined the Lakers last offseason and his performance was pretty decent. If Pelinka wants to get him, he will have to beat the competition. Pelinka will have to pay him more.

Lakers to sign a talented guard

Zach Buckley from Bleacher Report believes that Monk will sign another deal with the Lakers.

“The Lakers seem likely to throw their biggest asset (the MLE) at Malik Monk and hope that’s enough after his breakout campaign. The 24-year-old should command serious interest as a former lottery pick who just converted 47.3 percent of his field goals and 39.1 percent of his threes, and it’s possible L.A. won’t make the highest offer he receives. Still, as long as the Lakers’ offer is close to the top dollar he commands, he seems a relatively safe bet to stick around. He sounds interested in staying, and our crystal ball sees him taking a short-term deal that allows him to re-enter the market in a year or two to sign a longer, richer deal with the Lakers.”

Monk could be a good addition for the team. He could boost the offense in the most brilliant way. He likes the team and re-signing him should be a piece of cake.

“He’s very appreciative of what the Lakers have done and what they are doing. And he works for the Los Angeles Lakers,” Marcus Monk said. “And for him to be thinking anything beyond that and trying to help this team win, it wouldn’t be fair to them for believing in him. So I don’t even have those conversations with him. … Right now, he’s a Laker. And hopefully, he’ll be a Laker forever.”
