NFL Writer Lists Biggest Weakness On Patriots Roster

The New England Patriots are trying to build a strong roster. Head coach Bill Belichick signed new players this offseason, hoping to fill the gaps. Former wideout Julian Edelman has some concerns about the new 2022 roster and Ben Linsey has something to say about his, too. Linsey identified one weakness on the Patriots roster.

Belichick has great players and he really trusts Mac Jones. The Alabama quarterback will lead the team to more wins in 2022. He won the quarterback competition last summer and led the team to a seven-game winning streak. There’s no room for concerns right now.

Belichick to erase the weakness on his Patriots roster

Linsey discussed one major problem, including Patriots corners and coverage.

“The Patriots’ starting outside cornerbacks are Jalen Mills and either Terrance Mitchell or the recently unretired Malcolm Butler, as things stand right now,” ESPN’s NFL writer wrote Wednesday. “That talent doesn’t line up with what New England has done on defense in recent years, including last season, when it ranked second in Cover 1 rate. It doesn’t require much imagination to see that cornerback group getting exposed in a man-heavy scheme. That could force the Patriots into more zone coverage in 2022.”

J.C. Jackson was trying to get a huge deal with the Patriots, but it didn’t work. He left the team in free agency, leaving a huge gap on the Patriots roster. Belichick had to replace him with familiar names and new rookies.

Mitchell and Jack jones will do the job on the outside. Jonathan Jones could do great things for the team and he has done exceptional job on his position. Marcus Jones will stay on the inside.

What about Jones? He is wrapped in mystery and Belichick has high expectations from the young player. The Patriots will use him as a pillar and things could work really well for both sides.

It may seem complicated, but Belichick has a plan for his team. He always does. The 2022 season will bring a lot of challenges for every player on the team. Keep in mind that Belichick has plenty of new assistants, too.
