Lakers Owner Jeanie Buss Reacts To LeBron James’ Extension

Jeanie Buss and Magic Johnson worked really hard to bring LeBron James to Los Angeles and he has just signed another contract extension. The four-time NBA champion inked a two-year extension worth $97.1 million.

“It is a big vote of confidence when LeBron James signs a two-year extension, when he had many months to do so (he had until June 30, 2023, to sign this deal),” Buss said in her interview with Sam Amick of The Athletic. “And you know, it was a priority to us. It’s a priority to the Laker brand that he retire a Laker. We’ll probably enjoy watching him as he approaches becoming the all-time leading scorer in history. And Episode 4 … shows the celebration that we had when Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar) became the all-time leading scorer, and (late Lakers broadcaster) Chick Hearn even says, ‘A record that we’ll never see broken.’ And I honestly believed that that was going to be the case, that nobody would ever touch Kareem’s record.

“So there’s, I think, a lot of things to look forward to in this upcoming season. But I’m not going to go on record and say we’re gonna finish first or second or third, fourth. I’m just — I’m optimistic and believe that this is always a work in progress. And you’ve got to make changes as needed.”

Jeanie Buss trusts LeBron James

Buss made a few good points. The Lakers had a couple of disappointing seasons, but LeBron had great stats. It wasn’t his fault. Buss has nothing but respect for her superstar and everything he brings to the basketball court.

King James is the best player to ever take the court and Buss knows it. He is entering another challenging season. Hopefully, this one will be much better than his previous seasons. LeBron has a plan and he will do his best to get a ring or two before he retires.

There were a lot of rumors about LeBron’s future in the NBA. Many believed that he’d leave the Lakers to join another team. It didn’t happen. LeBron brought his business to LA and his kids go to school in the big city. Why would he leave now? He loves his team and he will probably retire as a Laker. Buss is grateful for the fact that LeBron “showed his faith” in the franchise by signing his latest extension. The Lakers superstar feels the same way about the team.
