Patriots Mac Jones A “Move the Chains’ Guy, Per NFL Executive

Is Mac Jones really a “move the chains” guy? That’s what NFL executive say. This goes against every doubter out there. Jones faced serious criticism after the 2021 season. Some thought that he’d never be a franchise quarterback. The New England Patriots had a few reasons to get him and Bill Belichick even gave him the keys to the offense.

Matt Lombardo shared the words from NFL executives in his In The Trenches column. Jones caught the attention of every player and coach in the NFL. He wasn’t a top pick for the Patriots, but he became better than other rookie quarterbacks.

Mac Jones to cement his status as a “move the chains” guy

What makes him so special?

“What I really like about Mac Jones,” an NFC executive told Lombardo, “is that he’s going to play every Sunday. He may throw for 250-300 yards every week, he’s going to be smart, he’s not going to have a lot of turnovers, and he’s going to be the ‘move the chains’ guy. The same thing he was last year.”

It’s not that simple though. The executive believes that the Patriots surrounded Jones with incredible players, citing this as the reason for his success.

“The thing with Mac Jones is that he’s going to be the same player,” the NFC personnel executive told Heavy. “He’s the same guy he was last year, and he’ll be the same guy 10 years from now. The only reason he was a Pro Bowl type quarterback [last season] is because he has a hell of a running game, a hell of a defense, a hell of a team around him, and the greatest coach to ever do it.”

Yes, Belichick is the best head coach in league history, but Jones has insane skills.

Let’s see what happens in 2022. Jones has to exceed everyone’s expectations and be better than he was in 2021. He has to be better for himself and the team. The Patriots respect his talent and players believe he is a real leader. A great way to start the new season, right?
