Ex-NFL GM Advises Patriots To Trade For ‘Explosive’ WR At Deadline

The New England Patriots have a big situation at wide receiver and head coach Bill Belichick is still trying to find the ultimate winning formula. They have a rookie and a newly-signed player at this position, but the Patriots may also trade for another WR.

Former NFL general manager Randy Mueller bets on Jerry Jeudy and considers him a good target for Mac Jones. He could end up on the trade block before the deadline. The talented player ranks 54th of 115 wide receivers and has 25 catches for 286 yards. In the 2022 NFL season, Jeudy had 67 receptions for 967 yards.

Patriots wanted to trade for the WR before

Will the Patriots do an effort to get someone who is prone to injuries? The Broncos player missed time due to an ankle injury in his second NFL season. We won’t even mention the other injuries he sustained. Jeudy entered the NFL as a first-round pick in 2020. His results at the combine were great and Jeudy ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash, ranking 10th among all receivers in that class.

Fun fact? Jeudy was brilliant at Alabama and Belichick is friends with Nick Saban. Jones also knows Jeudy and they could make a perfect match on the football field.

“I think they are to the point this year where beggars can’t be choosers,” Mueller wrote. “They can’t wait long trying to find the perfect fit or negotiating the best compensation to acquire a wide receiver. The need for speed is a reason to slightly overpay. That’s why I would make the deal for Denver Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy. … (Jeudy) will carry approximately $1.5 million of salary to a new team and as a former first-round pick has a fifth-year option that has already been exercised at $12.9 million for 2024.”

The Patriots have shown interest in Jeudy before. They had a chance to get him in March, but the Broncos had a huge asking price for him.

“Belichick has a great relationship with Jeudy’s college coach from Alabama Nick Saban, so the task of pushing the right buttons on Jeudy to further his maturity should be easy,” Mueller wrote.
