Patriots Advised To Trade For High-Cost ‘Top-Tier Pass Rusher’

The New England Patriots had a bad start of the season, meaning head coach Bill Belichick will have to make some changes. NFL experts have dropped a few realistic scenarios for the Patriots, and one of them includes a trade deal for a pass rusher. Truth is, the Patriots can afford new players. Belichick can trade a few picks and players to get players who can fit in his roster scheme.

Carolina Panthers pass rusher Brian Burns makes perfect sense for the Patriots. He is a capable player, but the Panthers have a 0-4 record. They have yet to agree to a new deal with him and Burns can easily make his way out.

According to Bleacher Report, Belichick could use Burns’ situation with the Panthers and trade for him.

“Burns is a top-tier pass-rusher who should interest almost any team,” Bleacher Reporter wrote. “The challenge is finding a franchise that’s willing to trade for him and has the cap space required to extend him.

“The Patriots could be at the top of the list of potential suitors if they believe they can still win in 2023. New England would have the 2024 money needed to extend Burns and doesn’t have the best track record of using its first-round picks anyway.”

Patriots have a chance to trade for the talented pass rusher

The Patriots will have to give up on a first-round and a second-round pick. Here’s a fun fact. In 2022, the Los Angeles Rams offered two first-round picks and one second-round pick for Burns. Carolina didn’t like the offer. This makes things a little difficult for the Patriots.

Burns revealed that he is not into any negotiations with the team. The situation may change overnight, but Burns didn’t reveal much about his future plans.

“I told them once the season started I’m all about ball. I can’t give a thousand percent on the field and to my teammates if I’m still worried about contract negotiations,” Burns told reporters, via ESPN. “Feel like I owe that to them to be 100 percent, a thousand percent at all times.”
