Patriots Linked To Potential Tom Brady Successor In 2024

The New England Patriots have been trying to find a successor for Tom Brady since his signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s been a few years now and head coach Bill Belichick is still working on the quarterback situation.

The Patriots first tried Cam Newton and Brian Hoyer was also in the mix. Belichick selected Mac Jones and released Newton. Jones has been a Patriot for three seasons, but his struggles make analysts believe that he is not the franchise quarterback. The Alabama quarterback was great in his first season with the Patriots but things changed in year 2. His struggles continued and fans are frustrated. Belichick hasn’t changed his decision to have Jones as the starting quarterback for the team. However, he benched him a few times this season.

Patriots could show interest in the predicted successor for Brady

Mark Wahlberg said that the Patriots could get Baker Mayfield in 2024 and turn him into Brady’s successor. Mayfield has a chance to replace Brady. He replaced TB12 in Tampa Bay this season, but Chad Graff from The Athletic says that the Patriots could be his top choice in 2024.

“The No. 1 pick in 2018 is the only other pending free agent who could be considered a viable starting quarterback,” Graff wrote. “His body of work is a mixed bag, but he’s had a bit of a resurgence this season that could lead to a team believing he could be its starter.”

“Through five games with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season, Mayfield has thrown seven touchdowns to three interceptions while averaging 6.7 yards per attempt. Even with better numbers this season, Mayfield is probably best viewed as a bridge option while developing a younger quarterback.”

Mayfield led the Cleveland Browns to a playoff win and it was the only time they did this. However, he worked with different coaches and offensive coordinators and this had an impact on his game.

Is Bill Belichick even interested in the talented player?
