Patriots Share Devastating Kendrick Bourne Injury Update After Leaving Week 8 Loss Early

The New England Patriots not only lost the game to the Miami Dolphins, but they also lost wide receiver Kendrick Bourne to an injury. This is a big blow for the team as Bourne is the most productive pass catcher for the team this season.

Mike Garafolo from NFL Network was among the first to report that the Patriots wide receiver had suffered a torn ACL in the loss to the Dolphins.

The veteran WR had caught three passes for 36 yards and a touchdown when he suffered the injury on the first play of the fourth quarter. Fans prayed this to be an MCL injury, but Bourne had his MRI and the results confirmed the severity of his condition.

Bourne suffered an injury in the middle of a great season with the Patriots

The 28-year-old had a really productive season with the Patriots. Bourne was leading the Patriots in receptions (37), receiving yards (406), and touchdowns (4) at this point of the season. He wasn’t too productive in 2022, but took a different approach this time. The Patriots signed Bourne for a reason and head coach Bill Belichick expected a consistent performance each and every game.

NFL analysts have started speculating about his future with the Patriots. There are so many questions on the table right now, but each of these is wrapped in uncertainty. One thing stands for sure. Bourne will miss the remainder of the season and will need 6-8 months to recover. The wide receiver will also become unrestricted free agent in March. This injury puts him in a rather uncomfortable position, but we wouldn’t jump into conclusions right now.

Patriots players were devastated. Team captain Matthew Slater said Bourne had been through a lot lately, noting that the injured WR had great faith. He also brought more authenticity than anyone else in the organization. According to Slater, Bourne is “true to himself” and “brings a contagious energy.” No one can match this and hopefully, this will be enough for the Patriots to give him a new deal this spring.
