Patriots Could Sign QB With ‘Great Deep Arm’ To Replace Mac Jones In 2024

Mac Jones looked like a promising young quarterback a few seasons ago. The New England Patriots were trying to fill Tom Brady’s spot and the Alabama prospect looked a good alternative and a potential franchise quarterback back then. Well, the Patriots may actually replace Jones next offseason.

Jones’ struggles painted a huge question mark over his future in Foxboro. In nine games with the Patriots, Jones completed 64.8% of his passes for 1,861 yards and 10 touchdowns. Add nine interceptions to his name. Not good, right?

The third-year quarterback is coming off a disappointing 2022 season and this one seems to be even worse. In 2022, Jones completed 64.2% of his passes for 2,997 yards and 14 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

Patriots could target an Oregon quarterback in their effort to replace Jones

Vinnie Iyer from Sporting News believes that head coach Bill Belichick can use the No.5 pick to get Bo Nix in the upcoming draft. He measures at 6’2’’ and 217 pounds. He recorded 2,723 yards passing for 25 touchdowns and 2 interceptions this fall. Add 116 yards and five touchdowns on 37 carries to this. Not bad for a future quarterback option.

Nix profiles well for the Patriots with his extensive experience in college along with his great deep arm and plus athleticism,” Iyer wrote. “He could still jump [Drake] Maye to be the second QB off the board.”

Nix, 24, looks like a natural fit for the Patriots, averaging nine yards per completion and was able to complete 78.1% of his passes. He had just five sacks this season and four last year.

The talented quarterback joined the Ducks in 2022 and New England may be his next destination.

“You have 10 coaches on your staff. With Bo, I feel like we have another coach. When he goes out there, he sees the game how we see it,” Ducks head coach Dan Lanning told On3’s Andy Staples in October. “He’s trying to accomplish what we want accomplished offensively. Obviously, he’s a very talented player and has a competitive edge that I’ve never been around before.”
