Everyone Has Patriots Among Favorites To Sign Benched $242 Million QB

The New England Patriots didn’t get the best of Mac Jones in his three years with the team. Many believe that the organization will part ways with the Alabama quarterback in the offseason. Will the Patriots sign a new QB in 2024?

Chad Graff from The Athletic discussed the chance to see Russell Wilson in New England. He is leaving the Denver Broncos and yes, makes a good case for the Patriots. The Broncos gave him a $242 million deal, but he didn’t have the best time with the team. In 2022, Wilson led the Broncos to a 4-11 deal. This season he helped them get to a 6-3 record before losing three of the last four games. Coaches benched him.

The Patriots need a quarterback in 2024 after the end of the Mac Jones era. It’s not clear yet who will be making the key decisions for the team this offseason, but Bill Belichick praised Wilson before their matchup last weekend, won by the Patriots,” Graff noted. “If Belichick is still around, he could be interested in a quick-fix plan rather than a rebuild, potentially making Wilson an option in New England.”

Patriots expected to sign the QB

Analysts CBS Sports are also fans of this scenario. According to them, Belichick could easily get Wilson and fix the quarterback issue in New England.

“Pretty much everything we’ve come to know about how the Patriots operate could be out the window if the Bill Belichick era actually comes to an end. But Belichick’s tight-lipped regime would seemingly mesh well with Wilson’s business-first approach, and few clubs have been more desperate for proven QB production since Tom Brady’s exit in 2020.”

Sporting News also covered the Wilson story, suggesting that the Patriots do have a cap space to get him and add depth to the receiving unit.

“The organization is perhaps entering into the great unknown with the future of head coach Bill Belichick continuing to be a source of speculation. …The front office may at least have the flexibility to make some major upgrades. Over the Cap projects New England to have $74.3 million in salary cap space, which would not only be enough to accommodate Wilson’s contract but also leave room to pursue another notable addition or two to the passing game.”
