Report: Patriot Devin McCourty Nominated For Prestigious NFL Award

Devin McCourty is the Patriots nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for 2018. Each NFL team is set to nominate a player of the active roster to race for one of the most prestigious honors in the league.

Devin McCourty will wear a Walter Payton Man of the Year decal on his helmet throughout the regular season. He will also be highlighted and recognized for his charitable work during the weekend before the Super Bowl LIII.

The winner will be announced at the NFL Honors, the two hour primetime show on the eve of Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta.

The winner will also receive half a million. Half of the money will go to the Character Playbook. The other half is going to the charity winners choose.

“We are very excited to nominate Devin McCourty for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. He has been a special part of our organization for nine seasons, not only for what he’s been able to do on the field, but for the way he’s been able to positively impact those in our communities. Devin is a natural leader and his genuine commitment to helping others is inspiring,” Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in his statement.

“I give back because my mom instilled it in me. She showed me the way by having a good heart and giving back to people. She was a nurse and growing up I knew in life that I wanted to do something to give back to people. It’s so much more gratifying when you can give to others and see the effect you have on them. Anyone can take a gift, but to take the time out and do something special for someone, it’s a great honor,” McCourty said.

Let’s see who will win this year’s award.
