Rob Gronkowski To Seriously Consider’ Retiring After Patriots’ Playoff Run

Sunday’s playoff run of the New England Patriots may be the last time you see tight end Rob Gronkowski wearing a Patriots uniform.

Rob Gronkowski has been flirting with the idea of retiring for quite some time, and he may do that after the Patriots’ playoff run. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported that Gronk will seriously consider retirement after the season.

Gronk sort of said he would retire after Super Bowl LII. However, he changed his mind, and promised to return for his ninth NFL season with the team. this season was Gronkowski’s worst season in his career, and he was not as productive as he used to be in the past years. The 29-year-old player had terrible numbers, and we have not seen him play this bad since his rookie year.

Gronk is not happy with the numbers

The tight end sat out three games in the regular season due to his ankle and back injuries. Even when he was active, Gronk had bad numbers. He was able to catch 47 passes on 72 targets for 682 yards in 13 games. Gronkowski ranked 13th among tight ends in receptions, sixth in receiving yards, tied for 17th in touchdown catches, 11th in yards per catch, sixth in yards per game and 20th in yards per target.

During his new conference, the tight end talked about the injuries that kept him out of the field.

“I’ve been in situations like that before, no doubt — practice, games,” Gronk said. “You’ve dealt with things like that before and had felt like that before like, ‘Dang.’ But it’s the game of football. There’s no room for excuses, everyone’s dealing with something and you’ve just got to keep on moving forward and you’ve got to find a way. It’s what makes this game great. You’ve got to be mentally and physically prepared at all times to keep on going.”
