Report: Tom Brady and Patriots Nearing Contract Extension

Is there any chance that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady becomes an unrestricted free agent? There’s zero chance for this to happen. Brady will sign a contract extension with the team any time now, and nothing will change that.

Brady’s contract extension may not be the best scenario the rest of the league hopes for.

“Think about it: The last three years we’ve been privileged to go to the Super Bowl with a quarterback in place,” Patriots owner Robert Kraft said at Super Bowl LIII. “I would be quite surprised if he didn’t continue for quite a while as our quarterback.”

When asked about his career and the support he gets all the time, TB12 said, “The reality is I don’t think many people thought I’d be playing like this even though I had a great belief I would. I think RKK [Kraft] has always supported me in my beliefs and thoughts. That’s why we have a great relationship.”

Brady means a lot for the team, and Kraft knows it. “Having the head coach [Bill Belichick] we have and having Tom, there is a unique symmetry there, and chemistry. It carries over to the whole organization. I think we’re very lucky.”

The same applies to Jonathan Kraft.

“I’m only hesitating because there aren’t any adjectives to describe how exceptional he is,” he said. “Anybody who doubts that doesn’t understand things.”

“Tom is under contract for next year, and I think hopefully people have seen that there’s a real understanding between all of us about how that situation is going to work into the future.

Brady knows it won’t be easy. “It’ll be a challenge for me,” he said in September. “I don’t think it’s going to be easy. I think it’s going to be very hard to do. Once you stop, you’re done, and I think I’m not ready to say that I’m done because I don’t feel like I am. I still feel like there are things to accomplish. It’d be like getting close to the top of the mountain and say, ‘Ah, that’s good. I’m good.’ No, I worked really hard to get to this point. Why not finish it off? I think the last eight years of my career have been better than the first 10, so I should just prolong it. That’s what I’m trying to do.”
