Dont’a Hightower Unwilling To Restructure Contract

Many of the veterans in New England may have their contracts restructured before the next season and free some cap space. However, Dont’a Hightower does not really like to play ball and give his money back to the team.

Doug Kyed of NESN reported that the Patriots have not approached the linebacker about his pay cut. Hightower will not accept such an offer. He signed a four-year deal worth $35.5 million in 2017. For 2019, his cap number increases to $11 million.

The Patriots have $21 million in salary cap this offseason.

Will the Patriots move on from the linebacker in case he does not accept a pay cut? They have already done that.

Hightower is happy with his game in New England, and 2018 was an excellent season for him.

“That means a lot,” Hightower said in January about his healthy season. “Like you said, my time on the field hasn’t always been as much as I wanted it to be, but this year it’s meant a lot to me. I’ve been out there, I’ve been able to play, I’ve been able to be with my teammates from OTAs to minicamp, so I’ve enjoyed it.”

“I feel like we are taking the right strides. I feel like each week and we prepare the best way that we can. Most of the time we come out with a good game plan and we come in with corrections to make on the sideline, so hopefully we continue do that and get better at those adjustments on the sidelines,” Dont’a Hightower said earlier in the season. “I feel like I am getting better each week and I hope to keep continuing to do that. I still missed a couple of days, a couple missed assignments, or whatever. I am just going to keep continuing to stride to be better each week.”
