LeBron Reveals His Initial Reaction After Learning Magic Johnson Left Lakers

LeBron James talked about his initial reaction upon the resignation of Magic Johnson during an episode of his HBO show, “The Shop,” and you can’t even imagine it.

Magic Johnson is “responsible” for LeBron’s contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. He brought him in town. Let’s just say that Magic’s resignation shocked LeBron.

“It was just weird for [Johnson] to just be like . . . ‘Nah, I’m out of here,’ ” LeBron said. “And not even have [a heads-up] like: ‘Hey, Bron . . . kiss my a–. I’m out of here.’ I would have been okay with that. Like: ‘Hey, Bron, it’s Magic. Kiss my a–; I’m gone.’ It wasn’t even that.

“What do you mean [stepped down]?” LeBron recalls telling Mims. “Like, from out of his car? I’m like: ‘Man, get the f— out of my face. You’re bulls—ting me.’

“We were like, ‘Damn, right now?’ It was literally 70 minutes on the clock before [tip-off]. [The team] is getting ready for a game. And you decide to do that right here, right now? I feel like there’s a time and place for things, and I believe that you knew you were going to make that decision. So why would you do it here? And why would you do it now?”

Magic’s relationship with LeBron hasn’t changed, and he actually likes him a lot.

“No, no, no, no,” he said when asked if his resignation changed his relationship with the Lakers star. “I love LeBron. LeBron is going to lead us to the championship, so we’re excited about what he’s going to do. Also, we’re excited that he signed. It’s all good with me and LeBron. And Maverick. And Rich Paul.”

Did it change his love for the Lakers?

“No, the same. Everybody knows I love the Lakers so I’m always gonna help them. Like right now, I’m still going to help them. I love my team, I love my franchise, and I love this city. You have to do things sometimes on your own terms no matter what other people think and I’m that guy. It’s almost like I never left. I’m still talking to them every day. I’m going to help them get the Lakers back right.”
