Frank Vogel Talks About Laker’s Strategy For LeBron-Davis Duo

The Los Angeles Lakers decided to do a big experiment last summer, and it didn’t work. This year they decided to play smart, and packed their roster with talent. They are following plan that always works and added three players that have shot at least 40 percent from behind the 3-point line for their career. Danny Green, Troy Daniels and Quinn Cook are perfect additions for the team. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel revealed some of the plans his team has for the players.

It’s a simple concept, put shooters around elite offensive talents and you are going to be pretty good because your guys are either going to score or they’re going to find shooters on the weak side. That’s the way our roster has been set up and built and we got an army of guys on that weak side that can punish either with the three or making plays off the bounce.

“We felt good about adding players that will star in their roles around AD and LeBron. The guys that we had all lined up are all going to come in and play their part and we feel just as good about our opportunity to compete for a championship now.”

The team signed DeMarcus Cousins, too. Finally. He was the reason Jeanie Buss fired her brother, and Vogel has high expectations for the player. He said, “This is the year that I think that [he] hopefully starts to really gain his form, and if he does, then we have one of the most powerful, dominant players in the game.”

When it comes to Cousins, Davis really likes how he fits the roster. They are ready for the big game.

“Before he came to New Orleans I knew him off the floor very well, and then on the floor, all the media attention he got of being ‘emotional.’ I didn’t really see that. Me and him are really close, and I kind of told him before, ‘we got one goal,’ so he understood.

“I think when you’re in a situation like this, it was rarely talked about him being ‘emotional.’ So when you come to another situation like this, I don’t think it’s going to be a problem at all, because we have one goal, and that’s to win.

“I love playing with DeMarcus. Obviously we didn’t want it to end, but obviously he had to move on and do what’s best for him and his family. Now we’ve got the opportunity to reunite in a great situation, so I’m excited about that.”
