Patriots Sign Second-Year Offensive Tackle In Trade With Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle Korey Cunningham will soon become a Patriot. The offensive tackle told his Instagram fans that his team is trading him to the Patriots.

ESPN’s Field Yates confirmed Korey’s claim. Yates reported that the Patriots will send a sixth-round pick to Arizona for Cunningham. In other words, the team is ready to keep him for a really long time. The second-year left tackle started all six games he played in last season as a rookie. He entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick out of Cincinnati.

Cunningham will probably be the Patriots’ new swing tackle.

The 6-foot-6, 305-pound lineman made four holding penalties and played 349 offensive snaps last season as noted by Pro Football Football. Per PFF, Cunningham allowed two sacks, and his signing may push off Dan Skipper and Cole Croston off the team.

“Arizona! Man it’s been a fun year and a half out in the desert! Thank you to Mr. Bidwell, Steve Keim, and the Cardinals organization for allowing me to start off my career here. Wish you guys nothing but the best of luck this season! With that being said, I was just notified that I have been traded to the New England Patriots. Beyond excited to continue my career and to get back to work.”

Skipper struggled through his first-team reps at left tackle during training camp and the preseason while he filled in Isaiah Wynn’s spot. Croston re-signed a couple weeks ago, but has good experience at guard. The Patriots may add four tackles to their roster at the beginning of the regular season if Wynn keeps seeing action on a rotational basis.

The former first-round pick suffered a terrible Achilles tear last summer. He has yet to assume a full workload in practice or preseason game.

The Patriots have to finish their 53-man roster for the regular season by Saturday 4 p.m. They have a few injured players at the moment, but hopefully, their season won’t start with problems. Julian Edelman is healthy, and so is their top quarterback, Tom Brady. It will be a good season for the team, and Cunningham was sent to the right team.
