Injury Report: Tom Brady Explains Why He Was Limited In Practice

The New England Patriots added more players to their injury report. Ten players were limited in practice, including quarterback Tom Brady.

Defensive end Michael Bennett (shoulder), quarterback Tom Brady (Calf), running back Rex Burkhead (foot), safety Nate Ebner (groin), wide receiver Julian Edelman (chest), linebacker Dont’a Hightower (shoulder), tight end Ryan Izzo (calf), tight end Matt LaCosse (ankle), tackle Marshall Newhouse (illness), and guard Joe Thuney (shoulder) were limited in practice.

Tackle Marcus Cannon (shoulder) was full participant.

The quarterback was limited due to the same calf injury that put him on the list on Wednesday and Thursday. The team removed TB12 from the injury report Friday. Brady talked about the reasons that limited his role in practice.

“Football is a contact sport,” he said. “I wouldn’t say I’m a spring chicken anymore. I’m trying to just feel as great as I can and we’ll see how it goes tomorrow. But I feel pretty good.”

New England added quarterback Cody Kessler to the roster Wednesday. He sure adds some load off of backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham when Brady is limited participants.

Edelman and Hightower had to leave the game against the New York Jets, and they were ruled out for the rest of the game. Seeing them at practice comes as a relief for the team. Bennett, Burkhead and Newhouse got injured this week.

When it comes to Brady, he may not be a spring chicken, but he is definitely ready to play until 45 or so.

“Yeah, I do. I certainly hope so.

“It’s a big commitment and it’s a lot of time and energy I put into getting ready for practice, post-practice treatment,” Brady said. “The mental part of the game is not the challenge. It’s just really working hard to keep my body in physical preparation, physical shape. I’m not a robot. It’s a lot of time and energy to prepare myself and my body to play. I love doing that, and I think that’s why I’ve been very fortunate to play as long as I have.”

What’s his plan for the future?

“Maybe I’ll be an architect or designer because I love building houses,” Brady said.
