Report: Patriots Signing Ex-Los Angeles Chargers Kicker To Practice Squad

The New England Patriots decided to focus on their kickers. They are doubling up on kickers, and there’s a new kicker on their practice squad.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots signed kicker Younghoe Koo to the practice squad. They decided to sign kicker Mike Nugent to the 53-man roster. This information was confirmed by several sources.

“Mike Nugent is set to be the next Patriots kicker, but the team is reportedly bringing another kicker into the organization as well,” ProFootballTalk’s Josh Alper wrote.

“The Patriots worked out seven kickers over the last two days as they prepare to be without Stephen Gostkowski for the rest of the season. Nugent got the nod for the active roster and multiple reports indicate that Younghoe Koo will be joining the practice squad as an insurance policy of sorts.

“Koo opened the 2017 season as the Chargers kicker, but only lasted four games after missing 3-of-6 field goal attempts over his time with the team. He’s bounced around the tryout circuit since then, but his only other game action came with the Atlanta entry in the Alliance of American Football earlier this year. If Nugent handles the assignment without major problems, Koo’s next game action will likely come with a team other than the Patriots.”

Koo was born in Seoul, South Korea and played four games with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017. He was 3-of-6 on field goals and 9-on-9 on extra-point attempts. Koo had eight touchbacks on 14 kickoffs.

Koo was undrafted out of Georgia Southern in 2017. He played with the AAF’s Atlanta Legends this year. Koo was 14-of-14 on field goals in the AAF.

Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski was placed on injured reserve with a hip injury Wednesday. He is set to miss the season due to his surgery.

If Nugent doesn’t work out, the Patriots can use Koo.  Punter Jake Bailey may also jump in action.

The Patriots are playing the Washington Redskins on Sunday. They are a strong team, but the Patriots are prepared for everything. They are ready for some serious football, and they have won the first four games.
