Los Angeles Lakers Get Update Regarding Key Buyout Target

The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t made a significant change to the roster. Well, LeBron James is convinced that his team doesn’t even need a change. The Lakers didn’t add a player through the buyout market. Surprisingly, their rivals have already signed a few big names.

LA may be interested in one particular player. Moe Harkless. He ended up playing for the New York Knicks in a deal for Marcus Morris. Sam Amick from The Athletic reported that LA pay close attention to Harkless and his situation in New York.

The Athletic’s Mike Vorkunov has an update on the situation.

“Moe Harkless says he hasn’t initiated any talks with the Knicks about taking a buyout before the end of the month,” he reported. “He says he and his agent might talk about it at some point and weigh whether he wants to play for a contender.”

The Lakers may not get their buyout target this season

Harkless is the 15th overall pick in the 2012 draft. He didn’t really become a star, but many teams used him as a key role player. According to some analysts, he is one of the “stingier perimeter defenders in the NBA.”

In 2019-20, Harkless is averaging 5.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.0 steal in 22.9 minutes per game.

There were reports suggesting that Harkless would be a prime buyout candidate following the trade. However, playing for the Knicks was like a dream come true for him.

“It means a lot to me, being from the city, growing up watching the Knicks, loving the Knicks. Being here is a great feeling. I’m excited and grateful. It’s a dream come true,” Harkless told reporters, via SNY. “I was a Knicks fan growing up. I loved watching the Knicks on TV, I loved coming to the Garden for games when I could. And I actually played at the Garden in college, too, so it’s like I’ve come full circle now.”

The Knicks at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. They entered the All-Star break at 17-38 record. The Los Angeles Lakers are on top of the Western Conference. The difference is more than obvious. They move forward with a record of 41-12.
