Magic Johnson Reportedly Had 1 Preference For The New Lakers Coach

Magic Johnson is no longer part of the Los Angeles Lakers, but he follows every move the team makes, including their search for a new head coach. The Lakers front office interviewed a few candidates and made a decision. Darvin Ham is the new Lakers head coach and he has already won the hearts of each and every player on the Lakers roster. He will probably do better than Frank Vogel. That’s what the Lakers hope for at this point.

There were a few good options for the Lakers and some even said that the team may get Doc Rivers. The legendary head coach will continue his career in Philadelphia.

Ham, on the other hand, got a chance to for a fresh start. He will coach the Lakers. He will coach LeBron James. That’s the biggest challenge a head coach can ever get.

Magic Johnson had a good advice for the Lakers regarding their head coach

The Hall of Famer followed the situation in Los Angeles. He doesn’t have an official role in LA, but his word is heard. The Hall of Famer had one demand. He wanted the Lakers to hire a former NBA player. Simple as that. I guess, Lakers decision-makers were fine with this suggestion. A former player knows the game better than any other coach. A former player understands the pressure.

“Magic Johnson told me earlier this week that he wanted the Lakers to hire an ex-player to be L.A.’s next coach,” NBA reporter David Aldridge reported. “Seems like the decision-makers agreed.

“[Darvin Ham’s] been a great assistant to Mike Budenholzer in Atlanta & Milwaukee, and is more than ready for his first head coaching gig.”

Johnson was unhappy with the current situation in LA. He didn’t like the fact that the Lakers missed the playoffs again. Johnson was really frustrated with the team’s inability to get DeMar DeRozan. Oh, yes, he criticized Russell Westbrook, too.

Let’s see if the Lakers use this advice to get the best of their upcoming season. Ham has a big task on his table. Let’s see if he copes with the challenge.
