Report: Patriots Stashing Tall, Athletic Wide Receiver

The New England Patriots have always been packed with talent. But, chances are, you have never heard of the team’s “most purely athletic wide receiver.” New England signed wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo to the practice unit on Nov. 20. He was so talented that the team decided to give him a future contract on Jan. 6. Adeboyejo has yet to take part in the spring workout program and training camp.

The wide receiver ran a 4.34-second hand-timed 40-yard dash at 6-foot-3, 197 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine in 2017. Adeboyejo also had a 6.73-second 3-cone drill and 4.14-second short shuttle with a 10-foot, 3-inch broad jump and 37-inch vertical leap during the pre-draft process as he was coming out of Ole Miss. No other Patriots receiver has provided similar results coming out of college.

Will the Patriots add the athletic wide receiver to the roster?

Of course, Adeboyejo has yet to translate these numbers into an NFL success. In his three years in the league, he has played just one game. He hasn’t had any stats. In 2017, Adeboyejo played 21 offensive snaps and 17 special teams reps in the game with the Baltimore Ravens.

In his four college seasons, Adeboyejo was able to catch 106 passes for 1,454 yards with 11 touchdowns. Adeboyejo’s junior year was his best. He hauled in 38 passes for 604 yards with seven touchdowns. As a senior in 2016, Adeboyejo struggled a lot. The wideout dropped five of 40 catchable passes on 71 targets.

The 24-year-old first signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2017. In his rookie season, he played just one game. The Ravens placed him on the physically unable to perform list due to a leg injury. Adeboyejo also spent some time with the New York Jets in 2019.

Head coach Bill Belichick probably plans to give Adeboyejo a chance to make the roster behind Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu, N’Keal Harry, Jakobi Meyers, Gunner Olszewski and other players at this position. He may be a special teamer thanks to his size and speed. It will be interesting to see what happens next to this great player. Belichick will find a way to use his talent.
