Report: New England Patriots Release Defensive Lineman

The New England Patriots made a bunch of roster moves in the 2020 NFL Draft. Head coach Bill Belichick, Nick Caserio and the rest of the guys drafted a lot of talented players. Now it’s time to do some trimming. Keionta Davis is the first to go. According to several sources, the Patriots have released defensive lineman Keionta Davis. The Athletic’s Jeff Howe. Was the first to report the big news.

Davis signed with the Patriots as a rookie free agent in 2017. In college, Davis made 132 tackles, 31 sacks, 19 pass breakups, eight forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in 50 career games. Let’s not forget that he was a two-time All-American. He didn’t make a big impact during his time in New England. He saw action in six regular-season games in 2018. The defensive lineman had three starts and six total tackles. In August of 2019, the Patriots placed him on injured reserve. Davis missed the entire 2019 season. He wasn’t able to help the Patriots make the Super Bowl.

The Patriots release the defensive lineman to make room for new players

New England signed four undrafted free agents in the past two days. They added Auburn defensive end Nick Coe, Miami defensive end Trevon Hill, Louisiana Tech defensive tackle Courtney Wallace, and William & Mary defensive tackle Bill Murray to the team.

Coach B knows what Davis can offer. The team understands his level of production, and things couldn’t get any higher than this. Belichick needs ultimate production which is why the organization is sending Davis away. He didn’t contribute a lot to the team. Because of that, the Patriots cut him to make enough room to add more young talent to the defensive line.

The Patriots had a really strong defense in 2019. The defense actually led the team throughout the season. New England’s offense was terrible and the players struggled to perform.

New England lost a lot of valuable players in free agency. But they also added a few talented names. Belichick will need all the unproven talent he can get. He trusts his instincts and his picks will sure fit well in the Patriots roster. The Patriots have entered a new chapter, and Brady is not in it.
