Devin McCourty Reveals Details From Patriots’ Virtual Meetings

The New England Patriots lost quarterback Tom Brady in free agency. They will enter a brand new chapter without the star quarterback. He signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will retire as a quarterback on that team. Devin McCourty went on 98.7 and talked to ESPN’s Chris Charlin, sharing details of the Patriots’ offseason virtual meetings.

The Patriots will have to move on without the quarterback. This is a brand new chapter for everyone.

“I think one of the biggest things we have to do as a team, and as players individually, is move on and lock in, and get focused on life without Tom,” McCourty told Carlin. “Not just to harp on it, and talk about it, but actually to move on and try to prepare. I think the virtual meetings have been good for us to start that process.”

The virtual meetings will soon change

Playing without Brady won’t be easy. But the Patriots will get used to it once they return to the locker room. Brady isn’t the only player to leave the Patriots in free agency. Kyle Van Noy and Jamie Collins left the organization and signed lucrative deals.

“I think that’s the first time you realize that guys are gone,” McCourty said. “Obviously Tom. But even a guy like Kyle Van Noy, Elandon Roberts, Jamie Collins. … I think when you get in the locker room, you start to look down at different parts of the locker room. You’re so used to seeing certain guys. And when that’s not there anymore, that’s when it first hits you. Like when I look down to my left and I don’t see Tom at his locker or I see somebody else’s name up there, that’s when you start to go, ‘All right. This is a new year. We’ve got a new team, new guys. And that’s when I think you start to really become the team you’re going to become going forward.”

McCourty is positive about the Patriots’ upcoming season and he trusts Jarrett Stidham. The Patriots will enter the 2020 season with Stidham on the starting position. How will they handle the pressure? Coach Bill Belichick packed the team with talents.
