Bill Belichick Has a Plan for the Long Game With Or Without Tom Brady

The New England Patriots are entering a new chapter. They will play without the star quarterback. The GOAT is out for good. how will head coach Bill Belichick move on without the awesome Tom Brady?

TB12 signed a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and left the Patriots with a $13.5 million salary-cap charge on the organization’s books. This was his parting gift.

Belichick didn’t rush to sign another big name. He left the quarterback position empty. Second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham is here. Belichick brought Brian Hoyer and two undrafted free agents. Truth is, many analysts thought that Belichick would do more than that. Some thought that Teddy Bridgewater would join the team in free agency. He is now playing with the Carolina Panthers. Andy Dalton, Tua Tagovailoa and Lordan Love are also out of New England. The Pats did trade out of the first round and got Division II safety Kyle Dugger. This was the team’s highest selection in the draft. Belichick passed on all big names.

What will Belichick do? He has faith in Stidham. He also relies on the defense.

“The team was constructed very competitively,” Belichick said in January following the AFC wild-card loss to the Tennessee Titans. “I think that was reflected in our overall play during the course of the year. Again, we lost four games that basically came down to the last possession, other than the Baltimore game, which, that was a pretty competitive game, too.”

He may also try to fix the offense. The Patriots offense has been reworked in the past two years to get ready for Brady’s decline or departure. In 2018, they put the main focus on the running game and had the league’s fifth-best rushing attack.

It didn’t happen in 2019. David Andrews was out because of blood clots in his lungs. James Develin sustained a neck injury. Jakob Johnson was the only fullback New England had. Well, he sustained an injury too. Belichick likes to tell his players that he can find a replacement at Foxborough High School.

We believe that Belichick would try to revitalize the run game. This would take the pressure off the next starting quarterback.

Well, the head coach is impressed with his defense. He is starting from that point.

“We rotate a lot. We’ve played 20 players on defense the last four or five weeks,” Belichick said. “Naturally, you start splitting it up between 20 guys, that’s what you’re going to get. Show me how many teams in the league play 20 players on defense. Not too many.”
