Report: Patriots Host Veteran Defensive Tackle For Free Agent Visit

The New England Patriots addressed one of their positions Tuesday as the team decided to host defensive tackle for a free-agent visit.

NFL transaction wire reveals that the Patriots had veteran defensive tackle Akeem Spence in the facility. The 2013 fourth-round draft pick spent his first four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was also part of the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, and Jacksonville Jaguars. Spence’s deal with the Jaguars expired this past spring, and he has yet to find a home in the NFL.

The defensive tackle measured at 6 foot 1, 202 pounds. He is 28, and his athleticism has never been a problem. In fact, Spence has been durable in his meandering career and saw action in 15 or more games in six of his seven seasons.

New England addressed their D-line in the past few weeks with a few moves. They signed Carl Davis off the Jaguars’ practice unit. New England also claimed Isaiah Mack off waivers from the Tennessee Titans.

Davis did a good job in his first two games with the Patriots. Head coach Bill Belichick used him as nose tackle. The team needed someone like him now that Beau Allen is placed on injured reserve.

The Patriots won the past two games, and let’s be honest, the win over Baltimore came like a shock for many NFL analysts. Most of them predicted a win for the Ravens. Well, Damien Harris, Cam Newton and every other player on the Lakers roster played well in Week 10, giving the Patriots a chance to reach .500. The Houston Texans are next on their list, and the Patriots have a great chance to win their third straight game.

According to recent reports, veteran wideout Julian Edelman may join his team in the near future. He is eligible to return to the field on Sunday. But, the Patriots have yet to make a decision on him. Veteran quarterback Cam Newton revealed that Edelman feels great, and that’s more than great news for all the Patriots fans out there.
