Chris Simms Shares Shocking Belief on Patriots Vetting of Cam Newton

The New England Patriots signed Cam Newton and Chris Simms believes that they went a little bit too far to get him.

The longtime NFL analyst and son of Super Bowl champion Phil Simms said that the Patriots are ready to do whatever it takes to ensure a player is right for the organization.

Simms shared a surprising theory. He believes that the Patriots tried too hard to ensure Newton was fit physically. They also wanted to know if his personal life was clean. According to Simms, the Patriots probably followed Newton for 3-4 weeks.  He added that the Patriots have already done this. The Patriots have taken these measures to vet a player. It looks like the organization did the same thing before trading for Randy Moss in 2007.

The Patriots like Cam Newton

New England made a really great move that year. The team went 16-0 in the regular season before losing the Super Bowl to the New York Giants. If Simms is right, this may be a little strange. Moss had problems with the coaching staff with the Minnesota Vikings and the Oakland Raiders.

The former Carolina Panthers quarterback has never been at odds with the coaches. His personal life is clean. Maybe the Patriots shouldn’t have followed Newton. He is an excellent person, and the Patriots need him on the field. How will Newton react to this? Maybe this would have turned him off the team. Well, maybe Newton will also expect something like this. He joined a really strong team after all.

One thing stands for sure, the Patriots really like Newton and they did what they had to do to get him. Following him? Why not. Other teams may do the same with their superstars.

The law doesn’t stop organizations from investing into this. However, many would agree that this is creepy.
