Bill Belichick Takes Dig at Tom Brady and His Time with Patriots

Bill Belichick has taken a little dig at Tom Brady. The New England Patriots are working to get back on track after a disappointing season last year. They were unable to even make the playoffs which is very unlike the Patriots. But they are trying fix the holes that were left when Tom Brady went to Tamp Bay.

For about 20 years, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady were among the most successful duos in all of sports. While the NFL is obviously a team game, the two very clearly had the biggest impact on the team for all of the time they were together. When Brady decided to leave for Tampa Bay, everyone was shocked and did not really know how to react.

Belichick is well known for trying to downplay individual player successes, however. Still though, most would think that when he was asked about his opinions on Brady and his successes he would tell the truth. When given the chance, however, he did the opposite.

He famously sent on this response when Brady left: “Tom and I will always have a great relationship built on love, admiration, respect and appreciation. Tom’s success as a player and his character as a person are exceptional. Nothing about the end of Tom’s Patriots career changes how unfathomably spectacular it was. With his relentless competitiveness and longevity, he earned everyone’s admiration and will be celebrated forever. It has been a privilege to coach Tom Brady for 20 years.”

However, this is now.

“Well we’ve had a lot of great, great players over the course of that time. You could have the same conversation about all of them – Tedy Bruschi, Rodney Harrison, Ty Law, Logan Mankins, Rob [Gronkowski]. You could go right down the line,” Belichick said. “So, it’s professional football. It’s the National Football League. Every team has changes every year. We have ’em, so does everybody else. I think right now, everybody’s focused on this year.”

It was surprising to hear this to say the least. But at least this means he has his mind on the future instead of the past.
