Watch: Cam Newton Makes Epic One-Handed Catch in Patriots Practice

Cam Newton entered the stadium for New England Patriots’ first practice and already stole the spotlight. It what looked like a bit of catch between coaches and the quarterbacks, Newton casually did his best Odell Beckham Jr impersonation and snagged a throw with his right hand. Take a look:

It was clear that Cam Newton was just joking around during Patriots’ practice. But the ease in which he does things on the football field is very impressive. Newton has inspired nothing but positive comments from his teammates since practices began in Foxborough.

Players have praised him for his energy and work ethic. He seems ready to take things to the next level and show even more of his talent once the team has its first padded practices next week.

Cam Newton Knows That When the Pads Go On For Patriots Practice, There Won’t Be Much Joking

Newton shows his fun-loving, lighthearted attitude, but don’t let that fool you. When the pads go on and this quarterback competition gets underway, expect to see a completely different Newton.

All things considered, it’s a challenging time for Newton. Brian Hoyer has already met or exceeded expectations in his career. He was essentially brought back to New England to add veteran depth at the quarterback position. If he winds up starting, that means neither Newton nor Jarrett Stidham made it in the big picture.

Newton is still awed when he arrives at Gillette Stadium for practice.

“I’m still constantly — I don’t want to say disbelief at this particular point in time, but it’s just a surreal moment,” Newton said. “Nobody really knows how excited I am just to be a part of this organization in many (more) ways than one. Just following up such a powerful dynasty that has enriched so much prestige. A lineage of success.”

Newton, the 2015 NFL MVP, has only $550,000 guaranteed on his contract, and tons to prove. This is his moment to shine.
