NBPA Approves December 22 Start Date For 2020-21 NBA Season

There is a report out that the NBPA has approved a December 22 start date for the 2020-21 NBA season. It seems like only yesterday that the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA title in Orlando. They were in the NBA bubble for nearly 4 months and it was a tough ride. But they were still able to come out on top.

LeBron James talked about how hard it was to stay focused in the bubble in Orlando. Take a look.

“I am here for one reason and one reason only, and that’s to compete for a championship,” James said. “That was my mindset once I entered the bubble, once I entered the quarantine process the first two days. And then right from my first practice my mindset was to, if I’m going to be here, make the most of it and see what you can do and lock in on what the main thing is. And the main thing was for us to finish the season and compete for a championship.

“So that’s just been my mindset throughout these — I don’t even know how many days it is, whatever how many days it is, it feels like five years so it really doesn’t matter. I’ve been as locked in as I’ve ever been in my career.”

But even after only a bit over a month after the end of the NBA season, they are already looking towards next season. It sounds like they have agreed on a start date of December 22nd.

The Lakers were looking to a later start date for next season citing rest concerns. And admittedly, they did not have a very long off season. For the teams who did well, they are in a way being punished by having less time off.

LeBron James has been outspoken on this. Danny Green talked abot this recently.

“Bron’s been to the Finals 10 years out of his 17 years, which is unbelievable mentally,” Green said. “It’s draining to do that. To have that quick of a restart, I wouldn’t expect to see him there. I wouldn’t expect to see him probably for the first month of the season. He’ll probably do some working out with us, he’ll probably do some playing, but I just don’t expect guys to want to be there or show up willingly.”
