Report: Patriots Lose Two Players, Including 2019 Draft Pick

The New England Patriots have a 4-6 record at this point of the 2020 season, and they have already lost several players. Some of them recover from their injuries while others had to leave the team. The Patriots will move on without two players, including a 2019 draft pick.

Hjalte Froholdt and Derek Rivers will have to find a home outside New England.

The Patriots waived Froholdt and Rivers on Saturday. The Houston Texans and Los Angeles Rams didn’t lose any time and snatched the players.

Monday’s NFL transaction wire listed Froholdt’s claim. The Rams have a game Monday night, so Rivers’ claim will be official tomorrow as noted by Field Yates from ESPN.

Patriots cut a draft pick to make room for RB Sony Michel

New England selected Froholdt in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He didn’t really have a chance to show his real skills. The reserve guard/center spent his rookie campaign on IR. Froholdt saw action in just two games, and then the Patriots decided to cut him.

Rivers is a 2017 third-round draft pick. He suffered terrible injuries in 2017 and 2019 and missed both seasons. The player was a situational pass rusher this season and had 1 ½ sack.

New England waived both players to create room for running back Sony Michel. The team activated Michel off IR and linebacker Terez Hall joined the active roster. Both players were added to the active roster ahead of the road game against Houston. Rivers and Froholdt would have been added to the practice unit had they not been claimed.

Michel didn’t play Sunday, and the team lost the match to Houston. A 4-6 record doesn’t look good at all, and New England will face an even stronger opponent Sunday. The Arizona Cardinals will arrive at Gillette Stadium along with their 6-4 record.

How will Bill Belichick and his team finish this game? They don’t really fit inside the playoff picture, and it’s one of the worst seasons Belichick has ever led in New England. Cam Newton looked great in Week 11, but his teammates struggled on the field.
