Report: The Toronto Raptors Could Lose Their $65 Million Star to the LA Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers may snatch a big star in the offseason. The team has been linked with several other players, but this particular player is definitely raising eyebrows. Things don’t look too well for the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors may definitely lose their star to the Lakers.

NBA veteran Serge Ibaka has spent time with the Toronto Raptors. He has been part of the team since 2017, and the Raptors gave him a key role. In 2019, Ibaka helped Toronto win the series against the Golden State Warriors. This was the team’s first title.

The Raptors to lose their star to the Lakers

In 2017, Ibaka agreed to a three-year deal worth $65 million with the Toronto Raptors. In 2020, he had an excellent season. The veteran averaged a career-high in points with his 15.4 percent per game with the Raptors. Toronto will definitely use Ibaka’s presence on the field. However, his contract is an issue right now, and we don’t really know how will things develop for the team.

The Lakers have just won a title, and they are definitely ready to win another championship. Adding another sperstar seems like a realistic scenario for the team. LeBron James and Anthony Davis did a really good job last season. They need a third player to win the next title with ease.

According to Sean Deveney from Heavy.com, Ibaka may be on his way to Los Angeles.

“From a personnel standpoint, he is exactly the kind of combo big guy that team (the Lakers) needs,” one NBA general manager said. “They have had interest in him before and they will again.”

Yahoo Sports suggests that the Lakers will have about $9.3 million to get Ibaka or anyone like him. If Ibaka wants to compete for another ring and take less cash, he should definitely join the Lakers.

The Los Angeles Lakers have had a good season and they won the first title since 2010. It will be a short offseason for the team, but they will do the impossible to make the NBA top again. LeBron, Davis, and the rest of the guys will make it happen.
