Bill Belichick Retires From Answering Questions About Patriots’ Starting QB

You won’t hear head coach Bill Belichick talk about the Patriots starting quarterback in the near future. The New England Patriots head coach is fed up with receiving the same question over and over again. This time the awesome Bill Belichick retires from these questions and his final word is… final.

Following the terrible loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night, coach Belichick was adamant that the 2015 NFL MVP would stay under center. Second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham won’t step in as a replacement for Newton. On Friday morning, after coming home and reviewing the film, Belichick confirmed the initial decision. Newton will be starting games with the Patriots.

“Yeah, I’ve answered that question for the last time,” he said.

Belichick gave Newton the starting job right after training camp this summer, and he won’t change his mind even after the disappointing loss to LA.

Bill Belichick retires from getting questions about Newton

Stidham has played in four games in 2020. Of course, he has seen relief appearances. New England has three games left on the schedule and a tiny chance to make the playoffs. Coach Belichick won’t give Stidham a chance to start games. He insists on having Newton as a starter. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels confirmed that Newton was the best option New England had this season.

If you ask Belichick, he will say that Newton is an ascending player.

“All of the things that we’ve talked about,” the Patriots head coach said. “It’s true of most every second-year player. Knowledge of the league, building good habits, building good fundamentals, gaining experience. Those things are all true for players at that stage of their development.”

When Tom Brady left the Patriots to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, many thought that Stidham would start games for the team. The team signed Newton, and now seem to be fine with the role he was given. Being a backup quarterback is not that bad.

“Jarrett’s done everything we’ve asked him to do,” Belichick said. “He’s done everything he can do, and I don’t think you can ask any more of that.”

Belichick and his players will meet the Miami Dolphins. They are finishing the regular season with two home games. How will the Patriots handle the pressure?
