Sports Medicine Doctor Gives Initial Update On Stephon Gilmore Injury

The New England Patriots hope to make the playoffs this season. However, things don’t look too well for the Patriots. Things can get even worse. Ja’Whaun Bentley and Stephon Gilmore suffered terrible injury in Sunday’s game. Losing both players would be a terrible blow for the team.

Gilmore suffered a non-contact knee injury late in the second quarter of the game. He left the game and team experts checked his injury. The first diagnosis wasn’t really optimistic and Gilmore went to the locker room. The reigning Defensive Player of the year putt little weight on his injured knee. New England ruled him out for the game.

Right after Gilmore’s injury, Dr. Jessica Flynn, a sports medicine doctor who works with Boston Sports Journal, shared her initial diagnosis.

“Looks like left hamstring gave and as a result right knee injured. Unfortunately, cruciate ligament tear is a possibility. I’ll be hoping like hell that’s not the case. Guy deserves big things.”

We will have to wait and see what happens next in the season. Gilmore is out for the game and he may miss the remaining two games of the season. This is a really challenging season for the Patriots, and Gilmore’s injury was the final drop. This week is worse than any other weeks New England had in the season.

Stephon Gilmore to make decision following his injury

This leads us all the way to another important question. Will Gilmore stay in New England in 2021?

“But Gilmore is also 30 years old. And by all accounts, the aging cornerback has no plans to play out the final year of his existing contract in 2021 that’s set to pay him a $7 million salary after New England essentially gave him a $5 million advanced bump in pay this fall to bridge the gap between his now-dated deal and the highest-paid players at his position.”

Gilmore signed a five-year deal worth $65 million contract with the team in 2017. He is the best free agent head coach Bill Belichick has ever signed. The Patriots needed a top cornerback and Gilmore was a good addition for the team. The two-time All-Pro helped the team win two Super Bowls. He had a big role in the Super Bowl game against the Rams. The veteran cornerback literally sealed the win with an interception in the end zone.
