Surprising Patriots Figure Takes the Blame After Terrible Loss vs Rams

The New England Patriots lost the game vs Los Angeles Rams in terrible fashion. It was a disappointing 24-3 loss for head coach Bill Belichick and his team. But, one particular member of the Patriots family took all the blame.

It’s not veteran quarterback Cam Newton. The 2015 NFL MVP struggled throughout the game, but it wasn’t his fault. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels took the blame for the loss in LA.

According to McDaniels, he should have put Newton in good positions to perform better. This goes against every comment doubters made regarding Newton’s role in the loss. Pretty much everyone believes that the veteran should take all the blame.

“Cam’s certainly been the best option for us all year long since he earned the opportunity in training camp,” McDaniels said Friday. “Whenever the offense struggles, I know the attention is going to turn to that position. It’s my responsibility to put us in a position to be more productive.”

Patriots to overcome loss vs Rams

The quarterback completed just 9-of-16 passes for 119 yards and threw a pick-six. However, Newton didn’t have much time to throw because LA’s defense was in his face throughout the entire game. Rams players sacked Newton four times for 31 yards.

Newton was brilliant in each of his first two starts. He gave the Patriots a nice weapon and they should have used his rushing ability better. But, head coach Belichick hoped to see more touchdown passes from Newton. The former league MVP threw just five touchdown passes against ten interceptions. He had poor throws to Patriots receivers, and the situation got worse in the last few weeks.

But, the Patriots won’t change their mind. Newton is their starting quarterback and they will stick with him for the season. Coach Belichick was pretty determined about this one. He is keeping Newton under center. It’s up to McDaniels to give Newton better opportunities in the next three weeks. The Miami Dolphins are next on the list, and Patriots players better win this one. They still have a chance to make the playoffs. It’s a week chance, but definitely worth the risk.
