Magic Johnson Makes Honest Admission About Lakers’ Title Chances

Former Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson is out of the front office but he follows every move the team makes. The Lakers lost both LeBron James and Anthony Davis to injuries. Head coach Frank Vogel has to change his gameplan at this point of the season. Lakers players have entered the second half of the season and they lost three straight games. LeBron sustained an injury when no one expected him to miss time. Magic Johnson discussed the Lakers’ chance to win a title.

The Hall of Famer has some concerns about the title defense. He went on First Take and talked about the current situation in LA. Stephen A. Smith asked him if he is worried about the franchise.

Magic Johnson cheers on Lakers’ title defense

LeBron suffered a high ankle sprain and Anthony Davis is dealing with calf issues. LA is 0-3 without LeBron following the loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

“We’ll I’m nervous because when you have AD and LeBron out with injuries, that’s a cause of concern,” Johnson said. “And then I’m concerned about the middle [on defense] too. We’re not very good at shot-blocking, the things we used to be good at with Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee. We can’t close the middle down this year.

“I hope that during this trade deadline or if somebody gets bought out, we can solve that issue.”

One thing stands for sure. Johnson has faith in the team. He believes they will be super tough to defeat four times in the playoffs, provided LeBron and AD are healthy.

The Lakers are dealng with bigger competition this season. The East and West are packed with talent.

“I still believe in the Lakers, but the Lakers have competition this year that they didn’t have last season,” Johnson said.

The Lakers are dealing with too many injuries at the moment. If they want to win a title, Pelinka has to add new players.

Let’s see how will things develop in the next few weeks.
