Wild Trade Proposal Has Patriots Landing Former No. 5 Pick

The New England Patriots will have to make some moves in the offseason. There are several big options for head coach Bill Belichick. He is expected to take an aggressive approach in the 2021 NFL Draft and even trade up to get the players he needs to fill up the roster. There’s a wild trade proposal for the Patriots, and they may consider getting a former Alabama star quarterback.

Pro Football Focus’ Eric Eager and George Chahrouri created the perfect mock draft. According to this, the Patriots will trade out of the first round for the second straight season. The Houston Texans will be the Patriots’ trade partner.

A wild trade offer for the Patriots

It’s a bold mock. The Texans may trade quarterback Deshaun Watson to the Miami Dolphins for a bunch of good picks. They will have to trade away the No.3 overall selection and Tua Tagovailoa. Houston will flip Tagovailoa to add a first-rounder, sending him to New England in an exchange for Belichick’s No.15 pick.

New England would have found the franchise quarterback and would still have nine picks in the NFL Draft.

Tagovailoa’s first season with the Miami Dolphins brought him a few more doubters. In January, the Miami Herald cited three unnamed Miami players who questioned if Tagovailoa can lead the team to the Super Bowl.

Tagovailoa’s former college teammates Jaylen Waddle and Devonta Smith were asked to make a pick between Tagovailoa and Mac Jones. They chose Jones. Smith made his pick in a convo with Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated. Waddle talked about it during his sitdown with Andrew Siciliano from NFL Network.

In the 2020 NFL season, Tagovailoa played in 10 games and had nine starts. Miami had a 6-3 record in his starts. The quarterback was able to complete 64% of his passes for 1,814 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. Well, Miami went back to veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in the Week 16 game against the Lask Vegas Raiders. The team benched Tagovailoa, and Fitzpatrick led his team to a 26-25 win. Tagovailoa played in Week 17, and the rookie was picked off three times.
