Patriots’ Biggest Threats in Race to Trade up for a Quarterback

The New England Patriots may trade up to the No.4 spot in the NFL Draft to get their quarterback. But, they may have to deal with the offers from at least two NFL teams.

The Atlanta Falcons can get the best offers from teams who need a quarterback. They may end up drafting one, but they have an excellent quarterback in Matt Ryan. Atlanta may delay the complete rebuild until next season. This year they will probably get a bunch of draft picks while keeping their veteran under center for another season.

New England has Cam Newton under quarterback. However, his contract ends after the 2021 season. In other words, Newton is not the quarterback of the future.

If New England needs Josh Fields, Trey Lance, or Mac Jones, they will probably make an offer for the Falcons. The Patriots aren’t the only team contacting Atlanta for the No.4 pick.

The Patriots to trade for a quarterback

Ian Rapoport from NFL.com reported that the Denver Broncos and the Patriots are most likely to trade up for the No.4 pick.

Denver likes Drew Lock, but the team may try to upgade at the position. Rapoport also called out the Cincinnati Bengals at No.5 as a target for the Broncos.

The Chicago Bears will probably try to trade up and get a top quarterback prospect. The team signed Andy Dalton, but they will need to work on the position.

Bears insider Jeff Hughes says the Bears are serious about trading up to Falcons’ No.4.

“I believe the Bears are now trying actively to get up to the fourth pick. What you have to know is that Ryan Pace and Fontenot down there in Atlanta are best friends. I don’t think Pace has a closer friend in the league than Fontenot. The Bears like these quarterbacks. Now, is that a good thing? I’m not sure. Is it going to happen? I’m not sure. But the smoke is real. The Bears are actively trying to get to the fourth pick in the draft.”
