Knicks Have Lakers Starter ‘on the Radar’ for the Offseason

The Los Angeles Lakers will make a few big moves in the offseason. Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka will probably sign a few players. Well, he may also lose some of his veterans.

Enter the New York Knicks. The team looks good and they are the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. It’s interesting to note that the Knicks are contenders for the first time in many years. However, the Knicks are a couple of pieces away from creating the ultimate threat.

First, they need to address the starting point guard position. Elfrid Payton is a solid player but he is not a superstar. Derrick Rose is one of the best sixth men in the league. But, he is not a talented starter.

Lakers to lose Schroder in the offseason

The Knicks have to find a starting point guard. According to Ian Begley of SNY, the Knicks may be targeting a starting point guard.

“They’re keeping an eye on Damian Lillard and any other star who may seek a trade if things go sideways with their current franchises,” Begley wrote. “They also have guards like Dennis Schroder, Lonzo Ball and – per SNY sources – Kyle Lowry – on the radar for the offseason.”

What a list! Lillard won’t go anywhere in the near future. He is loyal to the team.

When LA traded for Schroder, it looked like two sides would try to agree to a contract extension before he enters free agency. However, Schroder turned down the offer. He said he would like to stay with the Lakers. How will things go for the Lakers?

Will the Lakers try to keep Schroder? He will have a bunch of suitors in free agency. Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN reported that the Chicago Bulls will go after Schroder in the offseason. If the Lakers want to keep him, Pelinka will have to try really hard.

Schroder will get $20+ million annually on his next deal. LA can afford the money but they will have to give up on some of their top players.
