Linebacker Harvey Langi Rejoining Patriots After Three Seasons With Jets

The New England Patriots are ready to embrace one of their former players. Having a familiar face back on the roster sure means a thing. Harvey Langi is more than excited to join the Patriots.

The organization and Harvey Langi agreed to a deal Monday. Langi’s agent, Kenny Zuckerman, confirmed the signing, but we don’t have much info on the new contract.

The Patriots signed Langi as an undrafted rookie in 2017. The talented player got $115,000 guaranteed to sign his deal with the Patriots.  That was the second-most ever for a UDFA. The talented player made the Patriots’ 53-man roster out of training camp. Unfortunately, he suffered in a major car accident in October 2017. The accident limited the BYU product to one game in his rookie campaign. New England decided to cut him in the final roster trimmings in 2018.

Langi spent most of the 2018 season on the New York Jets’ practice unit. He became an important contributor for the team. The talented player appeared in 16 games in 2019 and 14 in 2020.

Harvey Langi joins the Patriots for the win

Langi played on special teams in 13 of the 30 games he played for the Jets. He was a defensive starter in the second half of the 2020 NFL season. Langi played 90-plus percent of defensive snaps for six straight weeks in November and December. Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending neck injury. Langi hit 10 tackles in the Week 9 loss to the Patriots at MetLife Stadium.

The 28-year-old finished 2020 with a career-high 60 tackles. He also had one quarterback hit, one pass defended and one fumble recovery. Langi can play as an off-the-ball linebacker or on the edge.

Many former Patriots players returned to the team this offseason. Linebacker Kyle Van Noy signed with the team and center/guard Ted Karras is back to his former position. Offensive tackle Trent Brown is happy to join his former team.

New England entered Monday with six open spots on the 90-man roster. Belichick really likes his current team and he won’t stop making changes. The Patriots head coach brought many talented players to New England. He is ready for the big show.
